Top-ranked Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive season.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a historic £11m in tournament winnings.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
