This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
