The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
