The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a girl harboring several personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate souls, each with unique fears and motivations. These entities can seize control at will, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie hospital, while other scenes depict the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop revolves around controlling the persona that emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a persona is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can deceive or hide the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The last one standing could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
