McKenna's Stance on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they managed only a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"There have been any of those conversations," the English capital native former Irish young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any part of my focus is this week.

"I have a special job here at a special team. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Context and Agreement Details

It has been suggested that the manager would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but of course it's a massive sports organization."

The coach signed a fresh four-year contract in last year and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he responded. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I approach this job like I will remain Ipswich manager forever. I know that's not always going to be the case, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

Bellamy played for Celtic on loan from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh forward is minded to finish the current global tournament campaign, a position that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job.

Wales are presently in third place in their qualifying group behind leaders the Red Devils and second-placed Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and their rivals in next month would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually assured of making those, due to a successful Nations League performance, should they fail to finish as Group J second place.

Given his current position, Bellamy, whose agreement concludes after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the minimum.
