Reports indicate that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Major Reunion for Fans
Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their roles will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, as the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This represents the sixth film in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several notable actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
