Ex- Cincinnati Bengals and Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Burned in Farm Incident
Ex-University of Texas standout and professional football player Jordan Shipley is hospitalized after sustaining severe burns in an incident on his property near his Texas hometown.
Details of the Tragic Event
Per a release from his family, Shipley was using a machine when it caught fire. The 40-year-old managed to escape, it was not before he suffered major burn injuries over a significant portion of his body. He reached a ranch employee, who transported him to a local hospital. He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
“Please pray for full healing and no infections or other issues on his road to recovery,” posted his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on Instagram.
Extent of Burns
It has been reported that Shipley suffered full-thickness burns to over one-fifth of his body. His brother noted that the main danger at this stage is infection and lung complications.
Recalling Jordan Shipley's Career
Shipley received All-American honors with the Longhorns in 2009. As a collegiate athlete, he recorded 248 career catches for 3,191 yards and 33 scores. He also ran track for the university.
Drafted in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Bengals, he played for Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over three seasons. His retirement came in 2014.
