European Football's Governing Body Initiates Disciplinary Case Involving Chelsea's Pedro Neto Following Altercation Involving Paris St-Germain Stadium Attendant.
UEFA has commenced disciplinary proceedings concerning Chelsea winger the Portuguese international after he shoved a young stadium attendant during a Champions League defeat against Paris St‑Germain.
The 26-year-old, Neto, shoved the attendant in the dying moments of Wednesday's last-16 fixture at Parc des Princes – where his team suffered a heavy defeat – which caused the boy falling from a chair.
This provoked a confrontation involving players from both teams.
Uefa said proceedings have been instigated against the player on grounds of "conduct contrary to sporting spirit" under UEFA's code.
"The relevant committees will take a decision on this case in due course," European football's governing body added in its statement.
Neto expressed regret over his actions attributing it to getting swept up "by the heat of the moment" while he was attempting to quickly retrieve the ball.
"That is not who I am. It was in the heat of the moment and I want to apologise. I gave him my shirt. I feel terrible about it - an apology is necessary," Neto explained to the media.
"My French is not very good, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha intervened and said to him that it was a momentary lapse.
"Finally he accepted the apology and I gave him my shirt apologising about 35 times. He could see the context of the incident and was content with the situation."
Chelsea welcome PSG in the upcoming second leg for the return fixture, after Newcastle's visit to Stamford Bridge this weekend in domestic competition.
